ALIG International

ALIG asbl is member of the AOECS-Association Of European Coeliac Societies since September 2001 -   www.aoecs.org

AOECS is an independent non-profit association which covers European celiac societies. It was founded in 1988 and currently has 35 members from almost all European countries.
It provides assistance in dealing with issues of international importance. It coordinates matters of common interest and promotes the exchange of information among members. AOECS provides all possible information and assistance to celiac societies, small or newly formed.

AOECS projects:

  • obtain an international standard on the exclusion of gluten for the coating of naturally gluten-free foods
  • increase awareness of gluten-free diet issues
  • clarify the labeling of prepackaged foods, so that the presence or absence of gluten is clearly identified
  • find a reliable analytical method that detects and quantifies gluten in food
  • regulate the use of the symbol "gluten-free"
  • obtain reimbursement of the additional costs caused by celiac disease in all European countries.

Collaboration with AOECS has several advantages:

  • Legal food regulations are adopted mainly at European level
  • Contacts with other celiac associations allow them to benefit from their experiences
  • At European level, it is easier to get in touch with producers of gluten-free food.
